Statements by the Chief Returning Officer on the voting procedure so far
The Chief Returning Officer, Mr Constantinos Nicolaides, made statements to the Press on the voting procedure so far.
Invited to say if there is concern about the very low voter turnout compared to the 2009 European Parliament elections, the Chief Returning Officer stressed that a final evaluation will be done at the end of the day with the completion of the voting process.
Responding to a comment on the extremely low turnout of Turkish Cypriot voters, Mr Nicolaides said that great efforts had been made in the previous days in order to call them to exercise their right to vote.
The percentage of electors that had voted until this time in the respective 2009 elections was 26.24%, he noted.
